Leuka
Mark has been involved with the Leuka charity since 1999 and each year he cooks at the fundraising event Who's Cooking Dinner.
On one night, twenty chefs come together to raise money for the leukaemia centre at Hammersmith Hospital. From one kitchen, 80 exquisite dishes are dramatically paraded into the dining room. The whole evening celebrates the creativity and breadth of cuisines in London's restaurants. The curtain is brought down with an exceptional auction of chefs. The deal is this: each 'auctioned' chef agrees to cook dinner for ten in the home of the successful bidder.
'Who's Cooking Dinner?' started life as part of the Lord Mayor's Appeal in 1998-99, and proved to be so popular that it has been held annually ever since. Year on year, the generosity of its supporters provides funding for:
- Clinical trials to study new therapies
- The purchase of special equipment
- The modernisation of clinical facilities; this includes the building of the Catherine Lewis Centre, a £10 million state-of-the-art leaukaemia treatment and research unit.
